Bastrop County Audubon Society has donated and arranged for the installation of a sign depicting the "common birds" of PPLT's Colorado River Refuge (CRR). The sign was produced by Amazing Signs of Smithville and Bastrop based on a design by Alan Jaeger. The art is courtesy of and copyright by Margie Crisp. It was installed by Van Vuren Custom Work of Bastrop. It is located below the main parking lot of the CRR.

The September-October issue of "Audubon" is out, and it has an interesting evaluation of the two major party presidential candidates. In addition there are Q and A sessions in which the candidates respond to identical sets of questions.
Our presenter, Bill Brooks has studied Horned Lizards for over 40 years and has been a member of the Horned Lizard Conservation Society (HLCS) since its inception in 1990. He is a past national president of HLCS as well as a past Texas HLCS chapter president. He is currently president of the Lost Pines Native Plant Society.
Like all reptiles, Horned Lizards, sometimes called horny toads, depend primarily on their environment to control their body temperature, and they like it HOT! Most horned lizards live in a desert or semi-arid environments. Nevertheless, "We have one of the most eastern populations of the Texas Horned Lizard quite close to us."
Please join us at the First National Bank Building second floor meeting room on Tuesday, September 16 at 7:30 P.M. for the meeting, program and refreshments, or come early at 7:00 P.M. for Learner's Corner.
